Braving the Eternal Dark

A world I thought of years ago because of a writing exercise. With a recent interest in hex crawl play, it was given a full on World Anvil page. Plunged into an eternal darkness for reasons unknown, the Beacon in the city of Providence provides the only source of consistent light of the world. Behind their walls, the people of Providence live out their limited but relatively safe lives. Though there are others who are eager to go out into the darkness and claim treasures lost to time and darkness. Regardless of the creatures that lurk in the Evernight.

Safety in Providence

While there are problems and conflict within the last cities' walls, it is still the safest place in the world. With a steady source of food, warm shelter, and healers, it has been able to keep the last vestiges of humanity safe.

Lost Treasures

In a world that suddenly was plunged into eternal night, much of the treasures was lost to it. Magical artifacts left in vaults and in the hands of long dead arcanists. These are the things that tempt today's adventurer's to brave the deadly darkness.

Limited Resources

Providence has managed to keep a large community of people safe from the encroaching darkness. This doesn't mean they will be safe forever. Metals and lumber are not limitless. Raw materials are used everyday to maintain the outer wall. The scavengers have begun to struggle to find new supplies.

Danger in the Dark

When the light left the world in the Darkening. the creatures of the night flourished. Undead abominations from the deep, beasts corrupted by the shadows, and deformed humanoids threaten all who explore the lightless world.
