Devlog 3, it’s creativity time! Well, still creative but creative in a different way. The focus of week 3 has been the card prompts is what I’m trying to say. The game has developed pretty well and until I start playtesting there isn’t much more I can do to flesh out the mechanics. So let’s jump into what I HAVE been doing the last week.

Prompts Written

Other than minor tweaks and some proofreading, all the cards have been filled out with 80 thought provoking creative cues. I’m pretty sure some of them will be redone but I’m happy with them for now.

A table with several prompts from the Project Dream TTRPG

Face cards also have a purpose now. Functioning as pillars of intense emotion and memory. Some based in dreams and others in nightmares. They're going to be called Menhir, after the tall upright stones that are seen in western europe. Ancient, unmoving, and imposing, just like their real world counterparts. I’ve also figured out a neat way to have them react dynamically to gameplay, by directly tying the strength of them to which cards are in the discard. The more dream cards in the discard the more powerful the boon players will get, and the more nightmare cards means the bigger the danger.

Building the Deck

I’m bringing on Dejw Mik again for the art on this project. He was the same artist who worked on Loot Goblins with me and I’m excited to be doing this again with him. While he works on the actual art, I’ve been working on the ancillary assets. Things such as the font, card borders, card back, etc. After having gone through several mock ups, the cards are getting closer to a final design.

Up Next

  • First Playtest

  • Finalizing Card Assets

  • Gameplay Tweaking (Based on Playtest)

Unfortunately my first playtest session kind of fell through, but I did need more time to polish a few rougher corners. So it worked out fine. Right now I already have 3 playtests scheduled (2 in person and 1 online) and it will be interesting to see what unforeseen problems arise.
