Assignment Summary
-Lightkeeper briefed the crew,
Post death photographer Oscar Enfield reports his dead wife was missing from her pose 25 minutes after leaving the room.
Circle met with Oscar and was shown the entry and staging room.
Room inspection revealed phenomena in the chair, table, and strongly from the camera. Shadows cast by camera flash also lightly magickal. Camera deemed relic status
Learned camera was bought from Sara Khalil of The Cracked Lens.
Oscar comforted.
Interviewed Sara, learned the camera belonged to her grandfather during the war. Accompanying camera case retrieved. Case opened to reveal hidden compartment with notes on camera origins, and encounter with Father Joseph Vienno, detailing first undeath experience and camera side affects.
All previous photo models from camera reanimate, 3 dogs neutralized by repeating the photo process. Word received of Zombies in the graveyard, all photo subjects. Made haste for cemetery, 12 of 12 zombies neutralized in similar fashion.
Injuries (If Yes, Explain Below) Yes: [X] No: [ ]
- 'Ol One Eyed Pete interacted with the Eye of Ebris camera, coming into contact with bleed upon activating the shutter. The camera flash seemed to sap his energy.
- Trigg Boodle - While pinning/being pinned by an undead corpse, the monster opened its mouth and sucked the air around Trigg, pulling on their mental faculties.
- Corleone Waters activated an innate magickal ability to throw his voice in order to save and convince Oscar to activate the Eye on his undead wife Nora, putting her to rest. Corleones throat seemed affected the most.
Notes of Importance
Camera seems to reanimate the dead by transferring life force from the photographer. Shadows leave behind bleed/phenomena. Those undead have what seem like living shadows around them, can be temporarily stunned by use of any bright flashes such as various flash powders. Camera case also magickal, weighted weirdly. Camera notes/journal should be reviewed in greater detail.
Items and/or People Recovered
Corpse of Nora, camera - Eye of Ebris, Oscar, camera case, all photos that taken that resulted in undeath as well as those taken for testing purposes. accompanying flash powder.
Lightkeeper's Notes
This marks the first assignment for my circle. I will admit I was rather nervous about whether or not they could effectively work together. They are a rather disparate group who otherwise wouldn't cross paths in polite company. But what circle isn't?
Nevertheless, the way they handled themselves was effective and efficient, with no casualties. Upon reading their report it is clear the situation could have deteriorated quickly if not addressed. A camera that can reanimate the dead is dangerous, even more so since the effect isn't immediate. The first report of this phenomenon (The Eye of Ebris) was given to me via a missive from Captain O'Shaughnessy from the Briar Green precinct. The aforementioned Oscar Enfield, a post-mortem photographer, reported his wife's body had gone missing earlier in the day.
The theft isn't a strange occurrence in the Briar Green, with the college and researchers desperate for cadavers. However, with the police having their hands full with more pertinent crimes, and some oddities in Oscar's recounting, was enough for it to be referred to Candela Obscura.
Captain O'Shaughnessy's gut was right again. The retrieved phenomenon, this "Eye of Ebris", is much like other relics saturated with Bleed. An enigma wrapped in impregnable mystery. The notes left behind by (NOTE remind Corleone names are important for these reports) Sara Khalil's grandfather was only able to confirm the functions of the camera, and how to repair its intricate mechanisms. The source of its reanimation abilities seemed to be far from the man's grasp.
The fact he could fix it at all is impressive. The technology seems simple by today's standards, but according to my circle, Sara's grandfather had procured it during the war. While technological advancement was rapid during that time, what I can see today would have been leagues beyond what was pioneered during the war.
I did cross-reference the term Ebris in hopes of finding some further insight. There was an ancient deity that went by the name Erebus. Described as the personification of darkness and the first offspring of Chaos. It is the barest of connections as my circle did describe how shadows cast by the camera's flash had the faintest remnants of bleed.
Personally, I doubt there is a connection between the two. But any further coloration will have to be done by others. I still haven't been able to find a good place for the chapter house, and with how spread out everyone's civilian lives are a central meeting place is desperately needed.
