Quest Text

Within the Blinding Weald strange formations of ice have been appearing. Massive clouds of pollen, which is normal within the weald when windy, have seemingly been frozen in mid gust. A creature is lurking here but Feathers haven't been able to pierce whatever camouflage it is using. Elimination Required

Hunters

  • Zarnos, Gold 3 (LvL 11)

  • Verbranden Foundre, Gold 1 (LvL 9)

  • Crispen the Bald, Copper 3 (LvL 3)

  • Thorne Emberstorme, Copper 3 (LvL 3)

While I don't know the reason for their leave of absences it was good to see Crispen return to hunting. Though it sounds like he needs some additional time on the training grounds. I know he was punching above his weight class but you don't get brownie points for getting yourself killed. Ita should talk to him about that.

Verbranden and Zarnos on the other hand are my problem. While they have been consistently been performing well, they keep bringing Coppers onto Silver plus Hunts. I get recruiting help but as the senior hunters they should be more protective of their juniors. Deaths are expected but they shouldn't be encouraged.

Frostveils in the Core Forest isn't exactly the best news either. The snow fall was thick but they shouldn't have gotten as far as they did. The other leaders and I need to go to the Deep Core to check on things. We are closing on another Beast Hunt and I don't want to be caught with our drawers down.

Thoughts from the Game Master

Man were my players ambitious this month. They initially took two quests, this one and a Copper 2 one that revolved around a supernatural storm deeper in the woods with full intentions on clearing them both. They've done things like this before but just the nature of the hunts chosen, I doubted they had the time to pull it off. Which I ended up being right on.

That said, if they had focused up a little better I think they could have snagged both hunts. My in-person group has a tendency to become hyper fixated on certain things other then killing the monster. Situational awareness and strategizing IS very important but can get you lost in the weeds. This hunt took place in a section of the forest called the Blinding Weald, a place filled with pollen laden trees that could blind you if a stiff breeze traveled by.

At the end of each combat round I had them roll a d20 and on a 1 (this range increased by one each round) a wind would blow by and they would have to save against being blinded for a round by the pollen. During the after session debrief I learned they expected the pollen to do something much more devastating. This fixation led to the final monster to lay, prone, on the ground with 10 HP for a turn and a half. Overall it went well but boy could it have turned badly.

I used a Frostveil from the Tome of Beasts by Kobold Press for the base of this monster.
